Interested in good lenses for a Alpa System like the STC or Max - not for large movements ....
(Backs: P25, P45, CVF50c and an IQ160)

Maybe you can give me some tipps... (in terms of 135mm --> 24mm to 100mm)

with on budget i mean an average price of a used one below 4000€

thx michael

The problem is the "on a budget" part. None of the lenses offered in Alpa mounts are "budget" but here is a rundown of the ones that are not crazy expensive. All the quoted movement amounts are with a 54x40 sensor:

I don't know much about lenses wider than 40mm except that the 32hr is very nice but definitely not budget. Others will have to chime in about wider options.

43xl: very nice lens if you don't need movements beyond about 10mm and don't need tilt. 34/28mm eq for 44x33 and 54x40

40hr: if you need tilt on the Alpa and a bit more movement (15mm), then this is the std wide. 31/26mm eq

55hr and 60xl: both very good lenses. I'm not sure which is cheaper. The 60xl has a big image circle which you may not need, but it is smaller and lighter than the Rodi 55hr. About 39-45mm eq depending on sensor and 55 or 60 mm focal length

70hr/72xl: again both very good. 55/45mm eq

90hrw: if you can find one they are about as good but way cheaper than the new 90hrsw, which is very good and very expensive. 71/56mm eq

100hrs: this is a very good value. Not a big image circle but you can shift it about 5-10mm on a 54x40 sensor. Probably really good on the 44x33. 79/64mm eq

120xl: very nice and very popular lens. Might be more used on the market you can find. 94/77mm eq

150xl: also very nice but not as popular. 118/96mm eq

By the way, great images on your website!

Ciao,
Dave

Ok, then I would start with 43xl and 90 hr-w. Again, not a lot of movements with the 43, and you can't add a tilt adapter to it. If you can't find the old 90hr-w the 100hr-s is in the price range but no tilt and a smaller image circle.

If you want more movements then you want the 40hr. And if you need more focal lengths, then 72xl (Alpa now calls this the 75xl) and the 120 in place of the 90/100. But you might not find these for < $4000€, especially the 40 and 120. Note that a few years ago Alpa changed the ring color of the Rodi's. For example the 40hr used to have a blue ring, now they are all gold. They are the same lens so you might find a blue ring for a few less $$.

Of course your starting point really depends on what focal lengths you want to build around. One of the problems with The 43/100 is that if you want to upgrade later to lenses with more movements or that can tilt, you have to buy and resell. I started with the 43 and 100. I don't have either one any more for that reason. But I miss them both; wish I hadn't sold them. And at f/4, the 100 makes a great portrait lens!

Anything you want to tilt needs to be the short barrel, or "SB" version. Then you can add in the tilt adapter.

Thank you ver much for your great help...
I checked some lenses and information last night and I think the 40hr on a 44x33 will be the best solution for me.
In terms of 135mm i like the 35mm best - so thats the way i will go.... but step buy step ;-)

Thank you for the shortbarrel tipp - of course I want to use a tilt adapter for my work - one more thing to go with the 40HR.

I hope my Alpa stop-go journey will end soon ;-)
Expensive but it should be a good investment for my spirit ...investment is not a good word for alpa :-)
I know I can do my commercial work perfect with my tse canon system - on the other side i don´t spend a lot of money for fashion or shoes ;-)

If you shoot long exposure with filters, then I'd recommend the 40HR over the 32HR, unless you don't mind carrying a very huge filter system.

The 40HR is also a tad sharper than the 32HR in the corner. The 32HR is also delicate due to its Copal 0 at full stress of the weight, and may even become decentered when you don't move your tripod gently.

i will got for the 40hr - it seams to be an impressive lens... and of course it is my favorite in terms of 135mm (24mm- 35mm lenses)

If you expect to stay with 44x33mm CCD then the 35XL is an affordable option although you'll want the CF filter. The downside is that it doesn't play well if you go to a larger sensor. You'd also be well advised to process images in C1 too to dial out any LCC remaining.

Absolutely recommend the 40HR on any size sensor.
