Vapor
« on: February 05, 2017, 01:50:16 pm »

Here's another from my last trip to White Sands.  I've seen many stunning images of incredible sunrise and sunset skies against the desert - usually with a yucca or two, but for me what really stood out when I was there was the interplay of the bright midday blue sky against the white desert and cloud cover.  Very simple, complimentary abstractions everywhere, with just enough difference in tone to find some indication of pure color blocks.  This is probably the most basic image I shot over the entire day.

I like it! I like actually being there too.  :)

Works for me, even though I find the white sand a bit "aggressive", but I think that was the intention?

Very well seen.

Having that image on a wall as a large print would be wonderful.

Stunning.
I think it is just the little wisp of vapor just makes it for me.

Thanks y'all!

Eric & Dave - Yeah - there's a very simple, very elemental magic to the place.  It's a long trek to nowhere, but it's really worth it.

Paolo - Yes. I wanted to capture the texture of the sand and add just a bit more differentiation in the three elements.  I tried to capture the wispiness of the cloud as well.  I could be persuaded that it was a bad choice, but I don't *think* so at this time :)

John - I agree, the cloud is what makes the image.  I'm glad someone else thinks so :)

Graeme - I hope so :) This is an image that would shine in a minimalist room.  I envision it like so:

I like it a lot. There's more to see than immediately strikes the eye.
