Bit of both, stamper: nice shot, but far too big to see it as a whole picture on my 19" monitor. Damages the impact, having to scroll. Why not make smaller dupes of the shots you want to post? Only takes a few seconds...

On my monitor the top of the shot is cut off at the middle of the left side grille, making the shot less than square. It's width measures 27cms, which is about ten and five eighths inches... Maybe I'm just the poor relation who can't afford a bigger LaCie screen.

;-)

Rob I changed the height to 1201 which means it should look better. Some members seem to have the knack of resizing but not me. Happy new year when it comes!

Hi stamper -

Doesn't help me much, but never mind!

I hope New Year passes off without any fresh catastrophies anywhere, so I'm holding my breath!

When I was single I used to enjoy going around all night from place to place, saying the same old same old greetings to everybody, strangers alike, but after I got married I didn't like that at all and became very territorial. I even felt invaded when the 'phone rang! Here, you can't even sleep through it: they explode everything like Guy Fawkes! Fortunately, I'm far enough away from town to mistake it for thunder and lightning, so my subconscious manages to get through it well enough, and lets me sleep. I used to be able to hear the rain falling onto the terrace when we first came here, and years later the garden sprinkler system that comes on in summer at around 1 a.m.; now I don't hear either. It was the same with the little alarm clock I still have on the bedside table: if I slipped into hearing its tick as I went to bed, it drove me crazy; now I never hear its tick, but I do hear the alarm, if I set it!

Best wishes to you, too, and many more years to celebrate.

Rob

It's a classic. The light, textures, composition, timing - all spot on.

Absolutely!

And for folks who can't see the whole image without scrolling, if you are on a PC, most browsers will let you use CTRL with "+" to enlarge and CTRL with "-" on the numeric keypad) to reduce the size on screen. This works for me at least in Firefox and Internet Explorer, but I haven't tried it yet in Chrome.

Thanks Eric, it worked in Opera. Thanks to everyone for their positive feedback. This was one of those rare times that when I pressed the shutter I thought I had captured something worthwhile without having to stare at it a few times on my computer screen and convince myself it was a keeper.

I had no idea, Eric! Thanks very much, it has solved the problem I had with stamper's lovely picture.

I go into the new year a wiser lad!

I'm glad my suggestion on resizing your browser screen was helpful.
Those of us with smaller than 72" monitors can use tricks like these.

Stamper's photo is a great one at any size.

Also, Ctrl+mouse wheel can be used to change mag in Firefox, maybe other browsers.

That works for me, in Firefox at least. I'll try it on my other browsers.
Thanks for that, Bob B.

The way I view embedded images on here to get a full screen view, is to right click on the image itself and then select 'open in new tab' from the drop down menu that appears, then hit f11 to get a proper full screen view and then F11 again to come out of the full screen view when you are finished and to return to the thread or the post. You might also need to click the full screen view to zoom in etc..

A really excellent shot btw  :)
