I found these files in my archive and decided to rework them.

I really enjoy both images (for very different reasons)!

However, #2 is a real dandy and the "isolation" of this filling station is otherworldly.
Much more than a "record" shot - I could see this as fine art image (appropriately framed of course).

I once saw a documentary on Garry Winogrand. Fortunately, the filmmaker was able to interview him. WG said he didn't throw out his negatives. Or at least he'd wait a year or more to revisit the negatives to "see" if he'd missed something (sage advice) from when he looked at the film after it was freshly developed.

I am a huge fan of Winogrand--as much for his photography as for his wisdom.

I seem to learn more from artists whose work is unlike mine. ... If I hadn't watched that documentary, I'd have deleted those RAW files. They did not grab me until I looked at them nearly nine months later.

I just have so many losers stored away that finding any gem that might be hiding there would be a monumental task.

I like both images. Is it me or are those cars in the second image soft, but the structure appears sharp. It really adds that you have some red, green and blue elements underneath that large structure. As for the first image, I notice you don't seem to mind small anomalies your photos, like lines of light. Just an observation which makes me think you don't want to eliminate those elements.

Hi John, the cars are tack sharp. They may not appear so because the file has been reduced to 1000 pixels across. Detail in the cars is harder to see due to the low contrast ratio. The bright structure against that stark background really stands out.

The white "streak" in the first photo is a ship along the horizon. It was a calm night, and I was able to leave the shutter open for about 15 seconds. The grass in the foreground was illuminated by the lights in the parking lot.
