Photoshop CS6 won't print
« on: December 12, 2016, 05:18:05 pm »

Recently my copy of CS6 has stopped printing.   When I try to print, a message pops up that says "Adobe Photoshop CS6 has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.   Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."   The program is frozen and Windows is never heard from again.   I can print fine through the QTR rip and it has only locked up when I try to print through Photoshop.    Any suggestions would be appreciated.    Photoshop CS6 has a (3) after it in the start menu whatever that means if it's relevant.

Make sure you save your Photoshop Workspace, then close photoshop.  Re-start up Photoshop and immediately, and I mean immediately, hold down the Ctrl-Alt-Shift keys simultaneously.  this will launch Photoshop ignoring it's preferences file.  Now reload your Workspace and now try to print.  This often solves sudden Photoshop problems as the Adobe preference file is very prone to corruption.  If that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall PS and/or your print driver.

Does this occur with a specific image or all images?
A solution I use - after you restart, make a blank canvas  (size doesn't matter) open the offending image copy and paste all layers from bad image to the blank canvas. Adjust the canvas size up to full size of the bad image. Save as needed. Throw away bad image. Done.

As you can print ok via QTR and IF Photoshop CS6 behaves correctly in all but printing using the PS print module then the indications are that there is a potential issue with your printer driver (AFAIK QTR has its own driver hence the ability to print).

The suggestion of reset of the PS preference file is always a good starting point and can often resolve issues.

If not then you really need to isolate if this is just an issue with PS or a general printing one.  Can you print normally via your other applications?

Have you followed the troubleshooting tips:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-printing-problems-photoshop-cs4-2.html

Sometimes it is just not worth the time chasing this type of issue (unless it keeps on occuring) and you may be better served by uninstalling the printer driver rebooting and reinstalling the printer and also a uninstall and clean install of CS6.

CS6 having a (3) after it suggests that you have at some time done a couple of installs without uninstalling previous.  It may be something different but worth checking your system HDD's to make sure you only have one instance

Thanks for the input E.J. Peiker.    Redoing the preferences file as you described did the trick!

Glad to hear it.  That's the first line of defense on virtually any Adobe product when things go wonky.
