LL Forum post image attachments in Safari
« on: July 09, 2006, 07:51:16 am »

I cannot get any of the image attachments in LL forum posts to open correctly. For example if I click on the thumnail in the first message in the 1Ds2 versus 5D, I've found a difference! post a page of text opens rather than an image; the text starts:

ÿØÿàJFIFddÿìDuckydÿâ XICC_PROFILE HLinomntrRGB XYZ Π  1acspMSFTIEC sRGBöÖÓ-HP cprtP3desc„lwtptðbkptrXYZgXYZ,bXYZ@dmndTpdmddĈvuedL†viewÔ$lumiømeas $tech0 rTRC< gTRC< bTRC< textCopyright © 1998 Hewlett-Packard CompanydescsRGB IEC61966-2.1sRGB IEC61966-2.1XYZ óQÌXYZ XYZ o¢8õ?XYZ b™·…ÚXYZ $ „¶ÏdescIEC http://www.iec.chIEC http://www.iec.chdesc.IEC 61966-2.1 Default RGB colour space - sRGB.IEC 61966-2.1 Default RGB colour space - sRGBdesc,Reference Viewing Condition in IEC61966-2.1,Reference Viewing Condition in IEC61966-2.1view¤þ_.ÏíÌ

and the URL is shown as http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index....ype=post&id=777

The browser I am using is Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3) running under Mac OS X Version 10.4.7 Build  8J135 on a 1.25 GHz 15 inch PowerBook G4.

I do not have this problem on other forums, although none of the ones I regularly read use Invision Power Board. Regular links to other sites work without any problems. I think that images used to work in the LL forum, however I did not access the forum for some months (although I check the Main LL site most days) and my computer has undergone several software updates during this period and I thik  that the forum software may also have been updated.

Can anyone help me as not being able to view images greatly detract from the usefullness of the forums.

Regards, and thanks in advance,
Nigel

Do a search on the forum and you'll see that there have been several threads about this in the past month and a half. The sys admins are "working on it" but haven't been able to fix it yet. The latest Invision software seems to screw up and list the images as html when they are really jpegs. There are two awkward workarounds:

1.   Keep a copy of Internet Explorer on your machine and use that when you really need to see the enlarged images (because of a bug in IE this works). Or

2.  Right-click (or whatever the Mac equivalent is) to dowload the target file, save it as whatever.jpg, and open it in your regular image viewer (Photoshop or whatever).

Many of us hope the problem gets fixed before long.

Eric

Many thanks for your reply and suggestions. I tried to find any previous postings before I sent the message, but obviously used the wrong searh criteria!  I am pleased that it is not a problem with my software and fully support your wish that the problem is fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks again,
Nigel

PS. I don't know how I failed to notice the other topics on this subject wthin the "About This Site" forum - I must have been asleep.

PPS. Sorry Michael for yet another "me too" post. I will take this opportunity to thank you for a great site and DVDs (I am a subscriber and bought all the back issues).
