End of the Season
« on: September 20, 2016, 02:35:20 pm »

Photographed one Saturday morning two weeks ago while out walking down by the Speed River in Guelph, Ontario. It's been done before and better, but it's a testament to the work my home city of Guelph has done in naturalizing the river banks. We now regularly see great blue and green herons, osprey, mergansers and the odd bald eagle (even a great egret a few years ago) – unheard of 10 years ago.

It's also a chance to demonstrate the kind of reach and quality provided by the Sony RX10iii.

600mm (equiv.) ƒ4@1/800 (hand-held); ISO200; EI–2⅓

BTW - I called it "End of the Season" as the feathers clearly show the wear and tear of the season and don't reflect the prime of breeding season.

That's a fine shot, Terry.
Incidentally, I just got home from my physical therapist's office, which now sports nice painting of a Great Blue, but clearly earlier in the season.

I like the way you caught the light on the heron.

Here the shorebirds are lingering but clearly headed south.
