I'm really tired of upgrade and improvement cycles. I really don't want to learn anything new. I'd like a software Leica. I'd like one set of tools in which improvements, if made, are invisible. Maybe get a text that says, "your reds will be a little truer, but don't worry about it." We've got enough on our plates. If major tool changes came along every five years now, that'd be fine; the problem is, we're all using six different software pieces, and they're all on 18-month improvement cycles which means somebody's always trying to jam something new down our throats, when we're just trying to make some decent pictures. And if you ignore them, you're gonna be the guy floating around without support...like the RSP users a year from now. And sometimes, if you ignore them -- like with Windows security updates -- you're going to be the guy the FBI comes for, because your computer has been hijacked and you're spewing out child porn. I think a lot of people who try to be artists like the studio experience, or the darkroom experience, where they can close themselves away and just work. Photography software now DEMANDS that you be on the 'net, where anybody with an upgrade can jack into your system anytime he needs to make a buck. I don't like it.
Just a mild Monday-morning rant...
