Flat field correction / LCC within ACR
« on: September 13, 2016, 07:37:12 am »

Hi there,

I've been reading this forum for the last couple of years and learnt a great many things through it.

I'm starting to play around with Adobe Raw Conversion software and interested in how their DCP color profiling works. I have tried working with ACR & Lightroom and much prefer the former as it is simpler to integrate within my workflow (compared to LR which requires integration into a cataloging system which I have no need of & takes up more resources and time etc). The crunch is that I need to be able to make LCC / Flat field corrections as part of my RAW processing and although Lightroom has it available via a Plug in, I see no such thing available in ACR.
Is this indeed the case?
I really don't want to have do such things at the Output TIFF stage with software like Equalight, as it means I'm working blind at the RAW processing stage.

Thanks,

Alex

Nope...the flat field correction can only be done in LR...but the resulting DNG can then be processed in ACR.

Couldn't agree more. I wish LR had a simple mode without all that.

OK, feared as much (as I use PS for everything, LR is quite a large plugin).

Moving on; as the FFC Plug-In operates in LR's Library module, is there an advantage to exporting files and developing in ACR as opposed to continuing on into the Develop module (I have always presumed that they are in affect the same)?

Thanks,

Alex

Does the Raw Therapee flat field utility remove sensor marks and dust. The LR flat field does not.

Hi Bill,

RT allows to vary the blur radius that is used on the Flat-field data. A larger radius is more suited for light fall-off and similar corrections and reduces the influence of noise, with a smaller radius it becomes more sensitive for sensor dust and noise. So for dust removal, I assume it is better to use a low ISO Flat-Field shot (and/or multiple shots, as RT averages those to reduce noise).

It would be an improvement if one could combine the settings for removal of vignetting and for dust, like in Capture One.

Cheers,
Bart

Interesting to hear about Raw Therapee's advanced FFC.
As am primarily working with ACR & LR because they use DCP profiling - I have to ask if RT does, or does it employ ICC profiling?

RT does allow use of DCP profile.
