That's an interesting question. I don't know how to do it or if it can be done, because I am not photographing architecture (I use the camera gyro level for horizon-setting at 1x live view, then magnify). Try the manual?

No, nothing in the manual so I suppose it is not possible. Grid layer when magnified would be a helpful tool insteed of navigate and align lines on view with the border of the LCD monitor.

Consider researching Magic Lantern software. It (final stable release) works well on older cameras - I have a friend who swears by it for his 60D. There's lots of options available, including focus peaking - maybe there's a magnified grid.

Thanks for the input NancyP.
I know Magic Lantern can be used with overlays called "custom crop marks" but I think (have not tried myself!) it is not possible in magnified mode.
I would really like a grid like 6x4 in magnified mode. I find it really hard to compose architecture with tilt shift lens without aid in zoom mode. The grid used in 1x mode is not good enough.
