Capture One & Layered TIFFs
« on: August 12, 2016, 03:17:47 pm »

Hi everyone, I'm running into slowdowns when working with layered TIFFs in C1 9.2.1 on a Mac.  Any operation performed has a big lag before the display updates.  This occurs whether the files are on a HDD or SSD.  Flattened TIFFs are comparable to Raw files in speed.

Is this just the current state of layered TIFFs?

I7 3770k CPU, SSD boot drive, 32GB RAM, GTX 680 4GB VRAM, Mac OS 10.11.6
C1 catalog on separate SSD

Thanks!

Hi Alan,

The Layers don't add anything that C1 can use, so it's dead weight that has to be read and ignored.

Cheers,

Hopefully this will improve in the future - sometimes it's just easier to have a layered work file in the catalog.

There are people who consider layered TIF files to be an abomination; I am one of those.

What format do you use for in-progress work files?
