Panasonic 35-100 mini
« on: July 16, 2016, 08:42:10 pm »

a few weeks ago B&H had a brief promotion of the 35 -100 f4-f5.6 that seemed too cheap to pass up. finally got around to shooting the Imatest resolution target compared to the 35-100 f2.8 and was generally pleasantly surprised.

from wide open to f8 the mini matched the center resolution of the f2.8 at 35 and 100mm.  at 100mm average unweighted resolution was within 15% of the f2.8 (which has very good resolution across the entire image).  unfortunately at 35mm the mini was asymmetrical to the right - cleaned up a bit stopping down - not disastrous, but certainly not landscape quality.  It's sharp enough to shoot wide open and doesn't loose significant resolution stopped down to f8.

i still probably wouldn't pay list for it, but it's a competent enough walking around and backup lens that's 2 3/4 in long and weight 5 1/2 ounces with hood and lens cap.
