What does this sync cable connect to?
« on: July 12, 2016, 10:13:25 am »

This cable showed up with a strobe I snagged on eBay. One end (not pictured) is a standard headphone jack. The other, which presumably connects to a camera, is this weird 5 pin star connector.

What does it go to? Thanks.

Could be a Phase One sync cable, but I think they have more pins.

Phase One uses a standard PC outlet for syncing to the strobes.  The proprietary sync to the Copal shutter (for use on a tech camera) does have five pins, but they are not symmetrically placed.

My guess is that this cable was to a radio receiver that is no longer in circulation.

Is this a Dyna light?  I remember Dyna lights had interesting syncs.

Thanks to both of you.

It came with a custom-made (and cheap) AlienBee that had no stickers and no threads for attaching a modeling light. My best guess was that Buff did a special order for someone who needed 50 or 100 of them for a large production of some kind.
