Found it in an attic. It is 8 by 4 inches in size, and says "The Carbine" on a button.

I agree. It was likely my grandfather's and he died in 1917. This one doesn't have a hinge, just a sliding plate that covers the bellows. So perhaps 1910 or so? Interesting.

I think link 1 is almost exactly the same. Thanks very much.
I haven't attempted to explore it much. But your photo tells me more about it. Will try (gently) to unfold it, and look for serial numbers etc.

I have confirmed that the camera is a Butcher 3a with Lukos No. 2 Shutter and Beck Symmetrical lens. It is pre-1917 because my grandfather prematurely died that year.
