Leica lens for 5D?
« on: May 29, 2006, 11:42:04 am »

Background: Mark Dubovoy in Photo Techniques March/April 2006 got me started down this road ... he views the 1Ds MKII with the Leica lenses to be the state of the art ... better than the Leica DMR with the Leica R lenses. I couldn't afford the 1Ds but did buy the 5D. I shoot Florida landscapes (jonboring.com). Most of the shots on my web site are with the 20D and Sigma 12-24. When I switched to the 5D, I realized I now need something in the 24-70 range. I like zooms for the convience and don't yet own a prime. I had trouble with AF with near-far landscape shots so now I mostly manual focus with a depth a focus calcuator (www.dofmaster.com) so the manual focusing Leica wouldn't change my approach.

Would I see a big image quality difference with a prime over top-notch zooms?

Are the Leica lenses that much better than the L glass?

Which Leica lens would you recommend to me given the above and will it actually work on my 5D (clearance issues) ?

Leica lens for 5D?

here is an entire forum dedicated to that kind of question. I know there are issues with the 5d and Zeiss, but not sure about Leica.

From what I understand the L's are fine for mid to tele, but the problem is with the wide angle.  I've been watching the Leica 19 Elmarit and Zeiss 21 Distagon on ebay... still expensive, and ebay is the only option for that Zeiss.

Hi,

a friend of mine uses his Canon 20D with various
prime Leica R lenses. He´s getting awesome results
and seriously considers to sell some of his EF-S
lenses.

You can connect with an adaptor like Zoerkendoerfer
for example (Zoerk / Zörk).

best regards,
