That Tree
« on: May 11, 2016, 02:41:38 am »

I went with the darker one already but I still can't decide really. Now I'm sort of regretting it and thinking the lighter one might be better... Am I splitting hairs?

Probably everyone in New Zealand knows that tree. It's debatably the most photographed tree on the planet. It's not a wonder why. A short walk from Wanaka, and a unique location for a tree to grow. I wonder how long this tree will be around. I wonder how much revenue this tree has generated as a landmark, a destination, and by photographers throughout the world who have photographed it and sold images that people adorn their homes and offices with. It's perhaps also the richest tree in the world in that regard, all things considered. It's amazing the colors that Wanaka can see, even though it's mostly surrounded by mountains and hills. The weather here is more timid than the west coast, which can be brutal and amazing. Humbling really.

I'm lucky to have this photograph. It's one of 2,000 I recovered from a 2.5 month trip where I took maybe 20,000+ photographs. Back up your data! What you can't see on this small image is there is a little duck sitting at the base of tree, it's pretty cute.

Too bad not one of you mentioned you can do data recovery on an SD card (256GB card) when I said I lost all my data... where where you guys on that one? I went and shot about 150 gigs over unrecoverable photographs... so dumb.

I prefer the lighter one, as it still maintains the mood.
I can also imagine that the little lump to the right of the tree base is the little duck.

I'm glad you could recover this much. It's quite fine.

Lovely photos and I prefer the slightly lighter version too.
Weren't you asking about recovering photos from a hard drive? If the question was about SD cards I would have had some advice there but I thought it was long after the photos had been taken and card(s) reused.

Beautiful sky colours and composition!
The green on "that tree" is a little bit distracting though. I'm thinking how would it look if "that tree" was just a silhouette...?

I didn't notice the green in the tree before you mentioned it. I guess that turning that tree into a silhouete  would work very well. I'm all for it.
