The sync speed can be cheated by using an electronic first curtail shutter, which is what Phase does to get 1/1600th, and even more so if it required f/8 or smaller opening. The biggest hurdle to doing the faster sync speeds is the whole trigger/remote timing, thus the builtin transmitter.

While I'd love a line of cheaper f/5.6 - f/11 glass, there's not enough money to be made to make up for lost revenue from the existing glass.

why not? new Phocus, H6D with touch screen and usb3, sync up to 1/2000, 100c and perhaps some new lenses, the list goes on. Hope they will drastically improve the Phocus software.

from my experience even with leaf shutter lenses you start to loose light with shutters faster then 1/500. Significantly so starting at 1/1250s. The issue is the triggerin as mentioned by Joe Tower. Maybe there are solutions, I didn't find one. Also the cable triggering is to slow. I never tryed the V grip from P1.
Of course with HSS you will loose even more light and very uneven in many cases.

The solution is to use constant light source. Or wait for another few years till all the lights get shorter flash duration.

Phase One V Grip Air or the Profoto Transmitter built into the Phase One XF can sync at 1/1600th. Most pro lights flash duration is short enough that you either lose no light or only a little light. But some light kits (including a few pro models) are slow enough that you'll lose a couple stops of effective power, simply because not all of the flash has fired by the time the shutter has open and closed.

I think the price keeps dropping for a reason. Probably the dlsr IQ has caught up and makes the h5d40 less relevant?
It would be much better of getting the 50c instead? Once the h6d50c gets announced the h5d50c will continue lowering the price and becomes the entry level?
I see h5d40 has no future proofing. But if that's what you shoot then theres no better time than now to purchase it. ; )

The H5D-40 is not wifi-enabled. It is a really nice price and B&H even has (or had) a couple used for even less than $8k. I got an email last week from Hasselblad US saying the H5D-40 sale is "while supplies last". As others have said/conjectured, I'm guessing it is in the process of being discontinued and they are selling off remaining stock. It is still a very nice camera capable of taking very nice images.

The only thing that would put over the moon is if they resurrect the V system. Or a bolder super exciting move would be the announcement of Hasselblad's purchase of the Hy6 rights and tools! I know, I'm daydreaming or I just still have some leftovers from yesterday news.

something is coming, and a lot of dealers are going to be dumping their H5 demo units.

" a lot" worldwide total may be a lot but these days I call them thin on the ground, in the V days most large cities, UK, had a dealership, unsustainable obviously given the buy in price now but it sure was handy for a dark slide when you sat on one, again.

We are certainly in interesting times again for cameras. Though, interestingly, I have never felt such an urge to hold off buying anything to see how things develop.

I think the really interesting time starts ones Sony brings out their 70-80 MP sensor for 35mm which will probably be in the next d800 and Sony a8 or so.

I guess this was my point. Not a good time to rush into buying anything when things are so interesting. There are more and more downing their Medium Format kits for the D810 at the very top level of the industry and a 70-80MP model would put, I think, a nail in the coffin.

Please cite some form of numbers or non anecdotal evidence for this. It's said here often but the only actual evidence in aware of points to a different story.

If you look at Team Phase One revenue - which is public record - it is up year over year since the Great Recession 8 years ago. Nearly every day we hear from someone that is a small format shooter looking to get into medium format for the first time (in addition to those who are upgrading an existing medium format solution).

I'll grant you my point of view will have an inherent bias; I'm more likely to speak to someone moving from small format to medium format than vice versa, but the public sales numbers would seem an objectively fair place to look.
