Phocus with H3Dll 39MS and Windows 7 - problem...?

I was capturing to Flex and processing in Phocus.

The reason I was doing this was because my capture laptop was running XP, and Phocus wouldn't run on it.

However, I want to use the new(ish) Color Calibration tool, so I had Windows 7 x64 put on the laptop.

Flex is running like a train on it - no problem.

Phocus captures perfectly well also in both single and multi-shot, BUT in ambient light only.

If I try shooting in flash, I get red marking over much of the image area - similar to what you see with the highlight warning turned on. BUT, this marking stays even if the highlight warning is turned off.

Also, if I capture a perfect file in Flex (with flash), but view it in Phocus, these speckled marks appear on parts of the images also.

I've never seen this before.

Any thoughts?

Have I not set something correctly in Phocus?

Ps. If I view the Flex files on the Phocus on my desktop back at the office, they look perfect. The are distorted only when viewed on Phocus on the laptop.

I have seen reports of problems when a new version of Phocus is used with a camera using an older firmware version. Maybe you should check that.

In Phocus preferences set your flash delay to a longer delay would be my guess.

Will try the firmware option later. Can't risk it now with a day's shooting ahead.

Will stick with Flex for the moment.

My suggestion was based on the assumption that you were shooting multi shot with flash and that one of the four frames was not getting exposed,. This gives a fairly distinctive cross hatch pattern that I thought you were describing.
Sorry I got that wrong, do please keep us informed.

Well, I updated both the body's and the back's Firmware.

The problem is still the same - red and blue speckles (almost like highlight and shadow warnings) over certain areas of the image. The problem is that, even with the highlight/shadow warnings turned off, those speckles are still there.

If I save out a TIFF file, it's perfect - no discolouration.

Finally, if I take one of the RAWs and open it in Phocus on my desktop, the preview is perfect also.

The problem is only one of Phocus preview on this laptop.

So, it's either a laptop issue (yes, it is groaning under the weight of Phocus) or something to do with a Phocus setting on this installation, but I haven't changed anything that I am aware of.

Any suggestions?

For the record, just went to the Intel website and updated the graphics card driver.

I did a completer re-install of everything on this laptop.

It has both Flex and Phocus on it.

If I open a file in Flex and move the White Balance slider to the left, the file simply gets cooler, as you'd expect.

If I open the same file in Phocus and move the White Balance slider to the left, after a certain point those blue and red speckles start appearing just after the point where you might consider the image is starting to look too blue.

Do others see this? Or do you simply see a cooler file, like in Flex?

The re-install has improved the issue in that I was getting these blue/red speckles in Phocus immediately after capture.

I'm now only getting them when I use the White Balance tool - it's moving the slider too far to the left. But, if I drag the slider a bit to the right, they disappear.

It's almost like they're acting as a kind of highlight/shadow warning, but for white balance only, obviously.
