One more impression from Skye...

One of the many great shooting locations on Skye, Elgol offers lot of inspiration at various times of the day and with different tides. I particularly love the juxtaposition of shapes and textures in this image, as well as the feeling of mystery that the hint of fog adds to the great sunset light.

Beautiful! I really like the shapes and textures as you mention. Since I am not able to get out to great locations as much as I like, I am always on the lookout for shapes and textures in everyday scenes so even great landscapes that include them appeal to me.

It is a good shot, but I feel ambivalent about it. Explaining better: I don't know if the shot is about the foreground rock (great texture, as already mentioned), or about the sky/colour/remaining landscape.

In a way, I feel like the foreground is obstructing the view, so to speak; I want to see more of the what is in the background.

@ Paulo Bizarro: I appreciate your point about the composition, I wanted to make a "window to the landscape" using the beehive-textured rocks in the foreground, which were too good to be passed by, and to make it as balanced as possible with the triangular shapes of mountains and rocks in the background; but I understand it if you feel that they compete too much with the landscape in the back. Thanks for sharing your view!

One concern I have with the image is the artificial-looking darkening of the top left of the photo extending across to the top right: the sky but also the top half of the distant mountain and the top part of the rock face. To me, it appears as a processing artifact.

Terry, what you are seeing is not a processing artefact, it is the effect of the grad ND I used.

Maddog, I think what you see it's caused by two things: on the one hand, the sun was setting behind the mountain; on the other hand, resizing jpg amplified the effect.
