FROM LEICA:

Macro meets telephoto

The APO Macro-Summarit-S 120 mm f/2.5 plays a true dual role in the Leica S-System: On the one hand, it is a macro lens with a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:2 that renders even the finest details with perfection. On the other hand, its focal length, equivalent to 100 mm in 35 mm format, makes it an ideal moderate telephoto lens for portrait photography, particularly as its unusually large initial aperture allows perfect isolation of portrait subjects from their backgrounds.

Its design and construction is equally elaborate: of the nine lenses arranged in seven groups, three are made of special glass with anomalous partial dispersion. The exceptionally low dispersion (color scattering) of two of these is instrumental in keeping chromatic aberrations to a minimum. Its front-group focusing design features a floating element, i.e. an independently moving lens group that ensures spectacular imaging performance throughout the entire focusing range, even at the closest of focusing distances. Although the lens does not feature a completely sealed barrel due to the extreme extension of its close-up range, it is very effectively protected against the influences of water droplets, dust and moisture.

The optical design of the lens ensures that aberrations such as vignetting or distortion remain imperceptible. The contrast performance of the APO Macro-Summarit-S 120 mm f/2.5 is already so good at maximum aperture that stopping down to smaller apertures brings only an insignificant increase in contrast rendition, and even then, only in the extreme corners of the image. The combination of a moderate telephoto focal length, full macro-capability and an unusually fast initial aperture of f/2.5, and an alternative version with a central shutter, make this a unique lens in every respect.

The Summarit-S 70 mm f/2.5 ASPH NO RESERVE!!

Good condition and in perfect working order - sharp copy was CLA'd by Leica in 2015! Will ship via Fedex in US. Includes original outer box, box, case, caps, lens hood, paperwork! A great opportunity to own a superb medium format lens for the Lecia S system at a great price.

From Leica-

The high performance standard lens

The Summarit-S 70 mm f/2.5 ASPH. plays the role of the standard lens in the Leica S-System lens-portfolio, and has a focal length corresponding to 56 mm in 35 mm format. In order to ensure its universal versatility, the Leica design engineers invested immense effort to guarantee superior image performance at maximum aperture and at all focusing distances.

One of the eight lenses arranged in six groups features an aspherical surface, to minimize aberration effects. The two cemented elements are manufactured from glass with high anomalous partial dispersion, minimizing the effect of chromatic aberrations. In addition, glasses with very high refractive indices work together with the aspherical element to almost completely eliminate monochromatic aberration effects. In order to achieve perfect image performance from infinity to its minimum focusing distance of just 50 cm (~1.6 ft), the last two lenses are constructed as a floating element that moves independently from the rest of the optical system when focusing. The Leica Summarit-S 70 mm f/2.5 ASPH. is ideally protected against water droplets and dust and features a protective neutral glass filter that is included as a parameter in its optical design.

The reward for the immense effort invested in its design and construction is a lens with extraordinarily good contrast performance wide open and at all other apertures that, even at its closest focusing distances, can be only marginally improved in the extreme corners of images by stopping down. With a value of only 1.2%, distortion remains imperceptible, and maximum vignetting of 1.4 stops at maximum aperture is so extremely low, ensuring that the Leica Summarit-S 70 mm f/2.5 ASPH. delivers consistently dependable and superior image performance at all apertures and distances.
