If you look at these images from my 1Ds Mark 2, you will notice a faint, diffuse desaturation line across the top of each image. It began as an intermittant problem three weeks ago, but has now become constant. It's almost as if the CMOS sensor has moved from its proper position.

Does anyone have any good ideas what might cause this problem?

The camera is going back to Canon, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Digital Cameras, Backs and Shooting Techniques would be the appropriate place to post this question.

Shutter problem? I guess your camera will need repair!

I am making arrangements for its visit to Canon. Thank-you for your interest.

Almost certainly the shutter, Bill - regardless of how many shots you may have taken with it. This is a notorious problem with these cameras, unfortunately.

Since they shipped!!

My 1DS2 shutter went after only 6k shots, replaced free under warranty. You will find a mountain of posts on Galbraith (but be quick!) about early shutter breakdowns - the dreaded error99 syndrome.

FWIW I had this same (intermittent) problem with a loaner from Canon :-(

Looks like a shutter to me as well.
It's an easy fix for Canon.
I've had that on a 1DSI but not the II's yet...
