Impression Nr. 41, Skye
« on: December 07, 2015, 04:46:32 pm »

The inspiring Isle of Skye’s landscapes of sea and rocks have the stuff of fairy tales. Talisker, isolated, wild and beautiful, represents the island's nature at its best.

With the Sigma SD1 Merrill and the 10-20mm. Thanks for viewing! Best,

Vieri

P.S. Edited Dec 8 to replace the image with a smaller one to make it easier to see it without having to scroll

A.  GREAT foreground
B.  Really nice overall blue tonality
C.  There appears to be some luminance issues around the edge of the main rock edifice that meets the sky.

I love the flow in the foreground and the general mood.
Great shot!

Perhaps too much foreground? On my monitor the image has to be scrolled to see all of the image and I find that problematic. This problem seems to have been a recent one on LULA. Back to the image. Nicely processed and very likeable. Personally speaking small luminous issues don't bother me because they are usually caused by the save for web and compression which is hard to control?

There are lots of cropping possibilities with this photo!

Especially for abstract in lower part.

You can also keep only the first third top for a very different version.

Nicely done.

Well seen.

Thank you Mjollnir for viewing and commenting - I think the luminance issues are due to the resizing, they seem to be absent in print. I can give it a look and see if I can fix them though. Thanks again for pointing that out!  :)

Thank you very much Francois, glad you enjoyed it!

Hello stamper, thank you for your comment, I am glad you enjoyed the image  :) It is true that LULA has some problem with big vertical images, I also have to scroll it to be able to see it; perhaps they should put some limits? I'll see if I still can exchange the image for a smaller one in the original post... EDIT: done!

Hello Thierry, thank you for viewing and commenting - about cropping, I have some more images from the same evening with different framing, mostly the first third top as you said, not many (if at all) with a lower composition focussing only on the abstract bits. Next April when I'll be on Skye again, I might give abstract a go then!  :)

I like the original cropping with all the lively foreground.

And I applaud what I surmise to be your attitude: that the print is the real measure of an image, and that web display is secondary, perhaps because it is less within the photographer's control.

Thank you very much Eric, I am glad you enjoyed Talisker and its magical beach :D About my attitude towards prints, I totally agree with you: I do think that photographs can only really be appreciated in print. Sadly, these days most images aren't printed at all, ever, and this makes me feel very sad; on one hand, the art of printmaking is disappearing, on the other hand, as you said, monitors are a variable so much out of our control that it's a lost battle, I think. That said, I probably should take a less rigid stance and start preparing images for web viewing as well, besides printing. At the moment, I prepare my images for printing, and when I am satisfied with the result I simply resize them, convert them to jpg, add a frame and put them online - which, probably (or perhaps surely!) isn't the best way...  ::)

Excellent composition and image.

Thank you very much Rajan, I am glad you enjoyed it!  :)

Very nice.

Thank you very much Paulo!  :)
