Spent the better part of the day working on trying to get my new P800 up and running.
Ran a print first without a nozzle check and it was awful. Did the nozzle check and no black at all and 3 of the color channels were blocked almost 75%.
Did the regular clean and then a nozzle check and no better. Another clean and nozzle check and still the same.
Went to the heavy duty clean and another nozzle check and I finally got several black lines but the test looked horrible.
I know all about not running continuous cleans but figured by this time it is going back anyway.
Printed several color charts and still no black.
Called Epson support and they agreed after going over my list of tests that they would replace the printer.
Now the reason for the post..
After hanging up with Epson I spent another 2 hours working on this darn thing and I got it almost perfect.
Now I am thinking of keeping it and also keeping the new one they are sending to replace the faulty (sic) one.
I agreed to give them my cc and they will put a hold on $777.00 until they get the printer back.
Since the P800 will be coming with $325.00 worth of ink that means I could get the second P800 for $452 and then use it for my new Piezography setup when Jon Cone gets everything ready for the P800.
What do you think? Am I taking advantage of Epson or possibly as far as they are concerned $777.00 is face value for that model.
The two possible issues I am concerned with are, how does this affect the warranty with the first printer? What if that head just stops working then what will Epson say? Sounds like a lot of what ifs to save a lousy $67 bucks.
$777 is really not that much of a savings with a new printer at $1195.00 - $350 rebate =$845 (Only $67 difference)
Maybe it is best to charge the new printer with the opened inks and just keep the new one?
Leaning towards sending it back. (Just the first one)
Oh by the way the inks are down to 25% and the maint. tank is 75% full.
I cleaned the crap outa that sucker.
