D60 Sensor cleaning?

I don't own the D60 so take this as guesswork and not gospel.

I believe sensor cleaning is addressed in the appendix of the manual.

There should be a selection in the camera's menus for sensor cleaning. If it works like my 10D or 1D2, after activating this, you click the shutter which will remain open.

You can then use a hand blower or any of the dry or wet cleaning methods which are widely discussed.  After finishing, turn off the power which closes the shutter.

If memory serves, the D60 needs to be on AC power (NOT battery) in order to clean the sensor.

I've had and used exclusively a D-60 since April 2002.  I have never cleaned the sensor.  The camera did go in for repair once in Dec 2003 because it fell off a tripod (wasn't secured) and hit hard floor on Christmas day.  Canon cleaned the sensor as part of their work, but I have never done it.  I have not noticed any problem with sensor dust or stray particles like others with other cameras have complained about.

I tend to belong to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp.  I agree w/Michael that this camera doesn't have much of a problem with sensor dust.  So, I'd just shoot away and not stress over it until I started noticing a problem.  Otherwise, you might just create a problem trying to fix one that's not there.

BTW, many of my shots have been printed at 16 x 20 and larger, and there just isn't a problem with sensor dust.

Thankfully this has not yet become a problem. But, I find no reference to cleaning the D60 sensor, i.e. no mirror lockup beyond 30sec. I purchased my D60 on eBay hopefully to save a few dollars and get a better piece of equipment than I perceived the Rebel series to be and less expensive than a D70. So far I am pleased with the results and realize I have a lot to learn about the equipment, and getting the kind of results I know this camera to be capable of. I have been reviewing the manual and find only two references to mirror lockup and none to sensor cleaning. Am I missing something?

In Michael's equipment reviews I found where he said the D30 and D60 didn't show much of a problem in this regard, but it would be nice to know.

Alas, one of the hazards of buying used, whether from eBay or elsewhere, I didn't get the standard Canon charger/power supply for AC operation. I thought I had read that too, or heard it on the LL Video.

By golly, you're partially right. The contents section does list "Cleaning the CMOS Imaging Element." Kind of amazing how one can be looking for "sensor" and not be able to see "CMOS Imaging Element." It's in the menu section. And it does reccommend AC power. No appendix in this manual, only a References section.

May be headed back to eBay for a Canon charger. Thanks for the help. Now, back to learning how to use this beauty.
