Epson 4900 ... Save me...
« on: November 01, 2015, 12:42:44 am »

I recently purchased a used epson 4900 which was working beautifully until i changed out all the ink on the left side of the printer at which point the Green and Orange heads will no long print anything. Test Prints are perfect for all colors with the exception of Orange and Green which are 100% blank. I've run numerous cleanings and power cleanings, done the windex and paper towel trick and even bought the epson service software and tried to do a charge / flush all to no avail.

As a last resort i'm reaching out to someone in this forum that might be able to provide me any help before i call this thing DOA and tell my wife that i just wasted 700 bucks ;-(

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Interesting situation, but hard to know what to advise on the basis of so little information. Any one coming to a web forum for suggestions should provide all the detail possible that may help those with experience or technical knowledge provide ideas. The first question coming to mind from what you say is that if everything was working beautifully why did you "change out" all the ink on the left side of the printer? The second question is what procedure did you use for "changing it out"? The third question is what procedure did you use for replacing it. Did you replace it all with Epson inks from new cartridges? The fourth question is what "Windex and paper towel tricks" did you use on which components of the head assemblies? Before hearing back from you on any of the questions, I should mention that total blanks in a channel usually indicates not clogs, but rather "drop-outs" or blockages induced by air in the lines. But to be sure one way or another the procedural details are important. Oh - and finally - when you bought this printer second-hand, what did you do to satisfy yourself about the reasons why the seller was selling it and the condition it was in at time of purchase, and what kind of transportation handling did it receive between the seller's location and yours?

I should add to reply #1 that a service tech may be the only real solution. There could be problems with the pump/capping assembly, the dampers, the cartridges themselves or the printhead. A competent tech should be able to diagnose where the problems are and advise you on the repair options.
