Sgurr Alasdair from Elgol
« on: October 25, 2015, 02:33:49 pm »

On the shores of Loch Scavaig lies Elgol, a remote and small village set in a beautiful position facing Sgurr Alasdair, the highest peak both of the Black Cuillin range and of the Isle of Skye in general. Elgol's bay is one of my most beloved locations on Skye, one that never fails to inspire me with its dramatic and always changing landscapes. Here a beehive-shaped stone cliff, the moving clouds and Sgurr Alasdair makes for a surreal, otherworldly landscape.

With the Pentax 645z and the 28-45mm. Best,

The prominent hill is Gars-Bheinn; the flat-topped hill to the right is Sgùrr Dubh an Da Bheinn. At the location you shot, Gars-Bheinn (just) conceals Sgùrr Alasdair.

Great scene. A tad magenta, perhaps?

Too much Magenta for me plus an odd, to my eyes, lightening to the extreme right hand of the visible Cuillin, PP error?

Very nice composition. I agree about the use of magenta but if you were selling a print it might be popular?

Vieri,

The prominent hill is Gars-Bheinn; the flat-topped hill to the right is Sgùrr Dubh an Da Bheinn. At the location you shot, Gars-Bheinn (just) conceals Sgùrr Alasdair.

Thank you very much Rob! Very much appreciated, I will correct it on my website ASAP.

Thank you very much everyone for commenting, much appreciated! :D

About the magenta, I appreciate that it might be too much for someone; to me, accenting the magenta in the image helped me convey the otherworldly and slightly "apocalyptical" feeling the scene gave me.

About the lighter area between the beehive and the right side of the Cuillin, that's the way it looked like: the sun setting behind the hills meant that some light entered the image on both sides of the hills, one side being almost entirely concealed by the beehive rocks on the foreground.

About magenta helping image sales, this image is selling quite well but I am not sure wether is the magenta in particular...  ;D
