Sigma 20mm F1.4 coming soon
« on: October 15, 2015, 09:07:00 am »

http://sigma-rumors.com/2015/10/coming-this-friday-sigma-20mm-f1-4-dg-hsm-art-lens/#comments

This lens should be announced sometime on Friday, the 16th.

Looks like the hood is full time so filters may be problematic, but Sigma is stating that "coma aberration" was considered during the design.  So this may be the lens for Astro work?  Looking like 1.3K US.

Yes, all wide-field astro-landscape photographers must be drooling over the "designed for low coma" comment by Sigma.  You live in such a nice dark-sky area....

I guess that will be its main selling point as on the Nikon part the Nikon 20mm 1.8 is 60% lighter and 40% cheaper (than the rumored price) for less than a stop loss.

Aberration-free sounds good. Let's hope it's also razor-sharp. If so, it might be a good alternative to the 24 Art (the Canon TS-E 24L being another great candidate in that focal length range, albeit slow and with an even number of aperture blades, which makes it less-than-ideal when shooting urban scenes at night).

I like the direction Sigma is heading with its Art-series lenses. Hopefully the next one is a super-sharp UWA zoom - 10-16mm, 12-21mm, 14-24mm or something along those lines.
