LR 6 building "ghost" folders...

hi there,
strange problem.
I'm on 6.1.1
when syncronizing folders, LR creates a folder with the same name, sees files in that folder, but this folder only exists in the LR-catalog, not on the disk. when I delete that folder and backup the catalog, shut it down, then LR recreates that folder in it's catalog and I once again have two folders of the same name, of which one does not physically exist.
checked catalog integrity and so on, have created new catalog, but problem does not go away...
any thoughts ?

I have not had this problem, but have read other forum posters with similar problem.
Seems to be a corruption of the catalog. But I cannot understand why a new catalog would reproduce the same problem!
A procedure to correct that may work for you follows-

Solution to get rid of duplicate directories: (let’s call then “capitals” and “lowercase”)

1. In Lightroom:  Update the ‘capitals’ folder location to the correct ‘lowercase’ folder (right-click on the ‘capitals’ folder, then choose "update folder location") Lightroom will ask if OK to merge the two - say yes.
Everything now appears to be OK, except that with any new import the ‘capitals’ duplicate folder will reappear, so continue-
     
2. In Explorer/Finder:  Create a new folder with a different name (at the same level of the directory hierarchy as the problematic folders).

3. In Explorer/Finder:  Move all contents of the problematic folder to the new folder, delete the problematic folder.

 4.  In Lightroom:   LR now cannot find the old folder, it will show with a ‘?’ , so reconnect the photo library to the new folder ("update folder location", as above)

5.  In Lightroom:   Rename the new folder as it was originally, or accept the new name as permanent.


I note you may be using "Synchronization" to import folders of images. I suggest that Sync should only be used when you want to import sundry single images in a folder pre-existing in the Lightroom catalog. For whole folders of images it is better to use the 'Import' dialog.
