Mamiya 210mm AF ULD - no autofocus? Firmware update necessary?
« on: September 21, 2015, 02:21:24 pm »

So I finally got my P1 645DF+ and I couldn't be happier - except for the fact that the autofocus of the 210mm doesn't work.

I saw that my body doesn't have the lastest firmware (only 2.1 - i really need to find a P1 dealer to update it!) however I'm not sure that's the reason for it, as according to this link the zoom version (105-210mm) need to have its FPC board replaced:

https://www.phaseone.com/en/Search/Article.aspx?articleid=1291&languageid=1

So, which is it? Do I need to have my firmware updated (is it free at a P1 dealer?) or do I need to replace the lenses' FPC board or should I just return the lens and get another one?

Edit: I was able to take sharp photos, change the aperture etc - however the lack of AF bugs me.

Odds are, it's the lens firmware for the DF+, that is where I would start.
Hoever the 210 has a push pull clutch to turn on the AF, Push it up, to engage AF, you will see the wording Auto Focus when you do.

Glad to help.  The 210 is a sleeper of a good lens.  I have one that was hand picked by an expert and was lucky to be able purchase it.

Light weight and extremely sharp.  To my eyes, contrast is flat compared to more modern glass, but that can be fixed in post.

Enjoy

Funny. I gad the same 'trouble' with my lens.
Had picked it up at the customs office (where I cant test it). Came out - and then no AF.
What fun later with the lens.

Yeah I felt like an idiot for a second - but it's really misleading because there's absolutely no indication of a MF-mode. When you pull it back there's the AF-indiation but otherwise you wouldn't have any way of knowing.

ps.: Kommst du eigentlich aus Deutschland oder Österreich? Wegen der Tapatalk-Notiz mein ich ^^

The 75-150 has this same style of clutch, push/pull for AF.
