Forum Sftw Update!
« on: September 14, 2015, 01:10:10 pm »

FYI

The forum's software will undergo a major update tonight and may be briefly offline.

From readers' POV not a lot will change: some minor cosmetics; Tapatalk _should_ now work properly again. The rest is admin-related.

Please post any weirdnesses here

Chris

On my desktop, Safari, the quick reply box extends way beyond the screen:

The way quotes are displayed is now distracting:

- too much space before and after the quoted text
- white background (against the backdrop of a light gray for the actual reply)

Both of which give more prominence to the quoted text than to the reply.

This is what my screen looks like on a desktop Safari when composing a reply:

Gray on Gray text in quote boxes!

I suspect most LuLa readers are old enough to have less than perfect vision :-)

Isaac describes me perfectly. I find the gray on gray extremely difficult to read.

The font color has been updated to be much darker now, try refreshing your browser.

Now nothing distinguishes a quote from a reply, apart from an indent!?

That's better than the immediate previous version, but a box or something around the quote would be nice. Or even
[ q u o t e ] and [ / q u o t e ] surrounding the quoted text.

Slobodan: Have you tried a different browser on your desktop? I generally keep four browsers on mine (not including Safari), and one of them usually works on recalcitrant websites.

Administrators don't have profile pics anymore :D
Time for Chris to go to the hairdresser and come back with a Brand new punk cut.

That's better than the immediate previous version...

Better!? No. As atrocious as the gray on gray was, it was still much better than this indistinguishable one. But why being forced to choose the less of two evils when there was nothing wrong with the original quoting mode?

Slobodan: Have you tried a different browser on your desktop?...

I have Chrome, no difference. Besides, there was nothing wrong with the forum software from a user perspective, thus all these changes for the worse are really puzzling. Don't fix it if it ain't broken, bro!

Or do other weird things...

But I agree with Slobodan that the old system (before the recent changes) was quite usable, and this new one still isn't.
