Aphid macros
« on: September 06, 2015, 09:45:33 am »

I have a large mandevilla growing by my house. It's grown nicely this summer, and has attracted insects, especially aphids. Most of the time, the aphids that feed on this plant are green, but yesterday I notice something yellow covering the tip of a new growing vine. Upon closer inspections (i.e., I ran back into the house to get my reading glasses) I discovered these yellow aphids. I'm not a big fan of aphids, but those two prongs sticking from their abdomens and their red eyes are tres interesting, at least to me.  Here are six photos. I'd appreciate knowing which one you like and any nits you wish to point out.

Taken with a Canon 7D, 60mm EFS macro, 36 and 20mm extension tubes, flash, tripod, and shutter release.

Thanks for viewing.

Interesting series. My favourite is #1, from a composition perspective, the two isolated and differently positioned bugs work very well.

P.S. I have a willow tree in my backyard, and this summer it was "attacked" by similar bugs, but black ones. They feed from the tree's sap. Then after the bugs, there came the bees...
