Black ink staings on one side of the paper

My Canon 9500 mark II is heavily smudging my prints in black on one side of the paper.

It's only on one end of the paper, and more heavy in the corners.


Looks like I need to print something in my printer. What exactly, and how do I do it without damaging anything?

I'm going to guess it's on the leading edge or the edge where the cartridge nests, correct? you've got paper curl and/or a printer that needs cleaning. you're likely getting some ink soaked into the absorbent edge of the paper. check that your page is perfectly flat, that your head height is right and that the printer is clean (and also not putting down too much ink for the next print to pick up.

You might be having a different issue, but this happens to me occasionally on heavier weight, 250gm+ rag papers. I am not as familiar with the Canon driver, but for Epson printers, it is often solved by adjusting the platen gap to wide or wider.

Sounds like your printer's head is hitting the paper. Are you using heaving (310 gm) fine art paper? You may wish to check your printer settings, under printer properties (in Windows). When using my Pro-100, I need to check the "prevent paper abrasion" box, in Maintenance-Custom Settings to keep the printer heads from hitting the leading edge of thick papers. Also, it never hurts to pre-curl the leading edge of your paper. I hope this helps.

I am using Hahnemuehle Glossy Fine art 325gsm paper (baryta).

I have printed at least 200 sheets with no issues.

Then I had a couple of stuck pages - while the head continued spraying ink.
