Color and Such
« on: September 02, 2015, 12:46:10 pm »

I am experimenting with a new approach at the same location. It's more abstract than it is a literal photographs, so it might not be for everyone.
I'd love to hear what you guys think about this.

Hi Adhika,

Colors are fine. I find the contrast a bit overdone though. These kind of colors, time of day and overall atmosphere call for a bit more subdued tones.

great

-dramatic lighting
-colors
-lights on the ship (element)
-mist in the BG (element)

nit

-comp (ship on center) would favor right side 1/3 rule
-ship is to far away, image would be a good candidate for a tele or zoom landscape (subjective)

Slobodan & Dwayne, thanks for the inputs.

Dwayne,

I have been thinking about the ship being on the rule of third as well but I feel like it's a little too cliche. But I do use the rule of thirds for the color placement though.

I like where you are going with this. Not literal.
I love the color and contrast. I think your instinct is spot on about keeping the ship centered.
My only wish is to eliminate the break in the clouds in upper right. I find it distracts from an otherwise powerful image.

Firstly, nice image and thank you for sharing. I think this image is very much about the colors, tones, and gradations you have created, but I feel the ship being centered in conflict with that. Personally, I think this image would be stronger without a vignette and the ship off-center.

I just followed you on flickr. You have some wonderful images there.

Fine image. I like the colours, the palette is not too strong for me. I think I would prefer it without the ship.
