5Ds - no color histogram?
« on: August 10, 2015, 06:49:52 pm »

I'm use to using the 1D series of cameras. (I've owned every 1D and 1Ds since the original). The 5Ds is my first foray into the world of the 5D. I just finished a shoot with it last week, and was very pleased (other than lower 1/200 sync speed and no readout of approximate frames left) with the camera and performance. I use custom white balance on every shot, and I verify (to a degree) where the balance was before my custom white balance via the color histogram. I was surprised that there seemed to be only a luminance histogram, but no color.

Is this correct in the 5D bodies?

It's just below the initial review screen.  Scroll down 1 tick with the joystick and the color histogram will appear.  There are about 6 more screens below that as well...

Hope that helps.

But they are often unreadable or extremely difficult to find useful information in them. At least with downloadable pdfs you can search for each of the ten or so likeliest terms to describe what you are trying to find.

Thanks Jeff. Very succinct and helpful. Not being familiar with the 5D, I had no idea there were multiple screens other than the "Info" button.

And Bart. Yes, there are indeed user manuals, but as Eric said, they aren't often helpful when trying to find something in particular. I'm glad you have the time to go through ever single page.

No need to go through every page, just search for "histogram" in the PDF (that comes with the camera on CD, or is available on-line). I don't even have the camera, so I had to look it up for you. You're welcome.

Cheers,
