The Grand Staircase-Escalante. It would take a lifetime to see it all. This land is like a trumpet to the eyes, impossible to ignore yet for all large beauty it is easy to miss the small things present. We focus on the power of a waterfall but miss the quiet beauty of the stream. Less dramatic, perhaps but no less powerful and when the light erupts in the most unexpected of places and touches the things unseen, we witness a moment of beauty.

Very nice shot.

Your comments describe very much the way I felt about that area on my one visit a few years ago. There is so much to see right there that you don't need the nearby national parks (but they are nice, too).

I think Grand Staircase-Escalante is still a National Monument, not a National Park, so it doesn't get quite as much protection. The good thing is that it doesn't get as many visitors, either.

Good layering of dark and luminous areas.
