Yucca trees
« on: July 04, 2015, 01:24:50 pm »

Hi,

On the way from Monterrey, Mexico to San Luis Potosi shot through the bus window @70mm focal length

and I have a question in regard to what I see on my monitor while working on it in C1 Pro and then when seeing it after saving it for the web in sRGB.

I see it darker after saving it for the web. What settings do I need for seeing it equally in C1 Pro and the Web. I am using the 5DMIII generic profile in C1 Pro. Is there the problem ?

I also see it with too much punch eg. the Yucca trees look unreal an much too contrasty.

My camera setting is in neutral and Adobe RGB.

Thanks for any tips

Hi,

OK, I reworked it using 5DMkIII Generic C1 Pro profile but using linear response. In the first case I used Auto. Will have to look more inside C1 Pro and play with the Profile adjustments.

This is how I like it more.

I calibrate my monitors every 4 weeks with a i1 Pro from X-Rite so that should be not the problem.

Were the bus windows clear or tinted?

Another option would be to keep the first version, and make just the shadows lighter. This method might produce punchier, more contrasty image.

They were tinted. Something like the version below ?

Those are Joshua Trees, not Yucca

Yes, I like the third version best.

Speaking about yuccas, they come in many shapes and sizes, here is one of mine.
I am actually not quite sure whether this is a yucca, it was just a low growing plant, not a real tree, I found it on a side of a cliff in Cuba, hopefully someone can confirm whether it is yucca or know its proper name.

Hi Les,

Those look like Agave

Thanks you very much, Rainer.
Agave was my initial guess, but then I was told to change it to yucca. Sometimes, it's hard to compare the details with wikipedia or other sources, but you found really good reference pictures.

One more suggestion about your Joshua Trees. The tinted windows introduced a shift to green and blue, you might want to warm up the image slightly.
Below is a version, I got by a one-click change in Topaz Adjust, Brilliant Warm.

Les,

You are welcome. Mexico is one of the world countries with a big variety of this type of vegetation like Yucca, Agave and Cactus, especially in the central and northern parts.
