pc sync socket loose--how to fix?
« on: February 13, 2006, 07:48:01 am »

I have recently acquired a basic studio light setup and have been exploring this terra incognita. It's the first time I've used the pc sync socket (female) on my Contax 645. When I plug a pc sync cable (male) into the socket, it fires the flash only intermittently, perhaps if I jiggle it or press it very hard into the socket.

I tested the same cable/flash combo with another camera and it fires time after time without problem--seemingly eliminating the cable or flash as the source of trouble.

Is there a user fix for this, perhaps cleaning the socket somehow? How would I do this? I know there are tools out there for reshaping a pc cord tip, but none I've found for a socket.

Not worth a trip to the service facility, given that I can get a hot shoe/pc adapter for $15.

Suggestions appreciated.
