new equipment around the corner

There seems to be drums beating on the new equipment that will be out in the next few months, I have been following the different forums to get an idea on what would be a reasonable upgrade. As much as I would like to get the canon 5d, I do not have the funds to change to a FF, I have a rebel and a e-1 and the lenses that I have to go with them, what is around the corner to get the higher MP to go with the systems that I have. I have thought about the nikon d200(hard to find) plus getting into all new glass. Wait, test the waters. All the other forums are so biased that I can hardly get a good answer to with out getting slamed for a opinion. Thanks

Canon is rumoured to be about to announce the successor of the 20D, although some people are saying that the sensor will stay the same.

The D200 appears to be an excellent camera, but some early samples have suffered from banding issues in some extreme circumpstances. Nikon claims that the problem has been fixed on the bodies currently on the shelves.

The D200 meets my needs well; whether it meets your needs depends on what you shoot, how you shoot it, and even how the camera feels to you. Technically, it isn't lacking anything for the price level that it's in (obviously, AF will be slower than the D2 series, VF will be smaller, etc.), so you should base your decision on whether you'll be happy with the rest of the Nikon system (need a 600mm f/4 VR? we don't have one yet). If you have any specific questions about the camera, I can try to answer them, but my experience is yet limited, having had it only a short while.

Surprisingly, this is not true on VF image size: the D200 has VF magnification of 0.94x (with 50mm lens), surpassing all previous Nikon DSLR's including the 0.86x of the D2X.

The D2X still has the high end VF advantage of 100% coverage instead of 95%, an advantage shared only by the Canon EOS-1D family and Olympus E-1.

Another little surprise is that with this, Nikon only catches up with the all time VF image size champions of the DX/EF-S/FourThirds world, which are the Pentax *-ist D and *-ist Ds with their 0.96x magnification; Canon EF-S and Olympus 4/3 bodies have still not caught up with even the very modestly priced DS.

 I am glad to see that this forum is interested in giving straight to the point info. I have two great cameras but looking to go up in megapixels. waiting for the PMA offerings has been a lesson. Some of the advise on technique, not on the MP race has been priceless. Canon is going to give us some tidbits on Feb 21. I have oly and canon lenses and only need a body but Nikon with the D200 with the weather sealing is a great option, but again the price of lenses will be a factor.

Thanks for the great info from all the people on this forum. I do not submit much but have loved the information.
