extract colorport target reference as CGATS?
« on: October 15, 2011, 02:49:46 pm »

Hi, when new target is created the new reference is saved to
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\ColorPort_Resources\refs\rgb\my_target_name_here.xml

When target is measured there is a possibility to save CGATS that later can be imported into measuretool and measured there.
So my questions is how to skip the unneeded measure in colorport step and have CGATS for measuring in measuretool?

It seems odd that you're wanting to go from a modern, current product (ColorPort) to a discontinued product (MeasureTool). Can you tell us the bigger picture of what you're trying to do? Are you trying to average measurements?

Measuretool is discontinued but not dead, I have made a test chart in colorport, imported various test chart patches etc. I would like to be able to measure it measuretool not colorport.

I know I can measure once with colorport then get CGATS, then remove spectral data and I have my file. But I rather avoid the unneeded measurement with colorport. There is no save to CGATS option :(

smilem, I use Colorport for 100% of my readings, and I save my readings as CGATS just fine.

I would like to save not measurement results (that I can save too), but the testchart reference before measurement to CGATS.

Measuretool is discontinued but not dead,

It's dead on some operating systems (like Mac Lion) and will be on more looking forward.

I would like to be able to measure it measuretool not colorport.

Can you tell us why? What the bigger picture of what you're trying to do?

Windows is not Mac, there is always backwards compatibility.

ColorLab isn't dead on my Mac - I still use it :-]

OK, so you're averaging measurements - that's easy to tell us. My best guess is that we'll see that in i1P soon. Tis a great reason to use MT or MP in the meantime, if your process really calls for averaging. i1P does have a nice smoothing function...

What process are you profiling?

As for measuring in MT, have you tried the simple "Custom..." option?

What do you mean in MT, I can' save my target from colorport to be opened with MT.

Why colorport only allows to save tiff file for target why no reference CGATS etc.??? It allows to save CGAT after measuring, but don't want to measure in order to be able to get CGATS. I want to measure in MT my target I made in colorport.

Various, RGB inkjet, CMYK laser, CMYK inkjet etc.

Are you sure that measurement averaging with those processes provides an improvement that justifies the extra work? Have you done a side-by-side test with i1P profiles and seen an improvement via averaging?

You need reference data for averaging and analysis, but not for measurement via the Custom option. Try it.

In MT (not CP), goto Chart Measuring, Choose "Custom" from the pop up menu, enter the number of row and columns your chart has and start measuring.

I could do this only if I had my reference to compare to, and I'm asking the opposite, how to get reference as CGATS from colorport without measuring.

Well, you can measure without the reference data. Are you wanting to measure or compare? I thought you wanted to make multiple measurements and average them....

If you're just wanting to average, why not measure in CP and average those measurements in MT? Seems like you might be making this a lot more complicated than necessary.

I think that Xrite should have not removed this feature in the first place, or should I say made it possible to save to CGATS. It only shows that their viewing their customers as stupid cows or something. If I use profilemaker, it has CGATS, if you carry the product under your name, then make it talk to each other (I mean colorport and profilemaker).

Now Xrite woke up after 7 years of merging (I should say buying) Gretagmacbeth and out of the blue they say our calibration was different and hey we noticed it after 7 years !!! so shy not celebrate the new ISO standart and also make our own called XRGA we Xrite do not want to be a white crow among black, but they indeed are a white crow with all their standards. Software usability always is in import/export formats, what instruments the softwre talks this is a must.

Does Xrite have cxf v1 to cxf v2 converter?

However I have found that tabular data is saved here:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\ColorPort_Resources\custom\rgb

You can open the file and add this data to preformatted CGATS file than it's ready to go.
