I've been reading all the press blurb and also topics here on the forums.
I'm P45+ and RL3D user. Martin at Arca has always been extremely accommodating with any technical aspects when I was switching from the F-line to the RL3D. Arca have a close relationship with phasone and that fed through into resolving certain aspects that meant that my kit works flawlessly, it's a service I certainly appreciate when working with this high-end kit.
That's just a bit of background for my topic; I love the new interface/screen/connections of the new IQ DBs, is there room for an option to upgrade my P45+ (keeping the sensor/internals the same) into an IQ chassis so that I can have these new aspects but keep my p45+ brain?? I would be prepared to pay for it of course. I like that there is now another range within the phaseone line-up, but it's not something I want to move over to but I do like some of the features. I assume they must be applicable to the P45+ ??
Thoughts?

+1
The P45+ would a super digi back in the new chassis and IMO a better option than the P40+. 8)
We don't all need 60 or 80MP but longer exposures and 1.1 crop would be a much better option for me. Maybe we all (those interested) should send a support ticket to Phase and ask if this is a possibility.

Thoughts?
Technically, I think it's highly unlikely.

the fact that P45+ is in its own class and considering that is still in production for future customers with already solid number of established users
it would fit the sweet spot of the new IQ line up extremely well!!!
so +1 for sure!!!

A Phase One rep had said several months ago that he gets many requests for the p25+(now discontinued). Maybe Phase will listen to the many requests for longer exposures/lower mp full frame backs. Sign me up for an IQ45+.
-
another vote for long exposure of some kind w/ the IQ updates
-
Just put a support ticket in for an IQ145 with Phase........ worth a try? :-\
-
If there was enough demand causing Leaf to offer Aptus 12 in AFi/Hy6 mount,
surely there will be much more interest in P45+ in IQ chassis.
-
Technically, I think it's highly unlikely.
Technically it sounds possible to me, surely. Perhaps there will indeed be an IQP45+ and I'm just pre-empting it, but I would like the option to do it now..with all this new tech about it would be very useful. I'll send phase a ticket!
-
I don't know how the upgrade option would work. Will people pay $16,000 to update their current P45+ to an IQ145+. 16 grand for a different interface but same image quality is a bit much for me. I would pay 16-20 grand for an upgrade to an IQ180 with long exposure capabilities ie. Kodak chip.

I agree that potentially there might be a larger number of users wishing to pay for an upgrade from P45+ to an IQ45+ than upgraders to AFi-II 12. However, the technology, R&D, and expense involved would in my opinion be substantially more involved, even if it is possible at all to meld a P45+ with IQ technology.
I would say that while I have the feeling that what the P45+ can do won't be reproduced with the same technology, I believe it is possible that there may be a product that comes close to what the P45+ offers at some point. Don't know this for sure and don't know when that would be. But that is what I think. If it would be feasible to meld a P45+ with IQ technology, I would be all for it. I just think the path won't be quite so direct.

I suspect it would be a lot less challenging to put a new sensor with long exposure capabilities in the new electronics and chassis that it would be to try to retroactively try to stick in an older chip design into the new chassis.

You said that it will never come on another topic ... as a trader you have a great adaptability :-) fine !

Geez....you guys. Please show me where I said there would never be another Phase One product that would capture long exposures. And I'm not a trader, whatever you mean by that Erick.

a P45 + or any Camera , anyway they are the same but the screen

You stated that I posted Phase One would never release a product like the P45+ again. I don't understand this response from you, but I asked if you feel I stated that, to please post the link.
Thank you,

I asked for a phaseone FF with 40 mp and that good screen and you saif it will never come
you said : But if you're asking for a small number of megapixels on a large sensor, that will never happen for quality reasons. and I answered that in your opinion a P45+ has a small number of megapixels and the IQ is not good (of course a P45+ is not totaly a FF)
I dont see any difference between IQ1xx and a P45+ except the screen and the firmware

Erick, I really don't understand what you're saying but my main concern is when someone says I have stated something that I have not. I asked you for a link, which you haven't posted. But regardless, if you are saying that I believe a full frame (and from this I assume you mean 645 or larger) at 40MP or fewer megapixels will never happen, (regardless of the quality of the LCD screen) then yes, I stand behind that statement. It is only my opinion, after all.
I don't see what it has to do with my quote from this thread that you cited where I offered my belief that long exposure capability would be more likely to occur in a Phase One product at some point in the future rather than in a special edition P45+ IQ product.

Thank you for posting a URL link. However, I'm not going to scroll through 10 pages to find whatever it is you're trying to say that I said.
I'm pretty sure I answered your statement that - again - doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I have been saying on the topic of future long exposure-capable products.
And I'm finished with wasting people's time having to read this, please and thank you.
If you'd like, PM me if you still require clarification.
Thank you,

Without meaning to continue this silly debacle, I as an outsider totally understand what Mr Henrix is getting at and do not understand where the ambiguity comes from ? Clearly New digital back models are going to have new sensors, which history tells us can deliver the same noise characteristics (if not better) with the same or probably greater DR, whillst having more mega pixels, which is really a good thing. This mythical idea that "if only" Kodak or Dalsa will release a full 645 frame 22MP sensor which does iso 6400 ?!!

True. With the IQ180 You can only do ISO3200 not ISO6400, and only at 20mp rather than 22mp.
But that camera does have an optional 80mp mode and has a load of great features, so I think that makes up for the 1 stop and 10% resolution difference from your "mythical idea" camera :-).

Sorry but that is not correct . After spending time with the IQ 180 last week there is not ONE thing in common with a P back at all. Everything inside the IQ backs is totally new and there is nothing from the P backs that has been carried over into the IQ backs . Completely different hardware by a long shot. Bottom line the IQ backs are totally NEW. The only thing in common is the P65 and P40 sensor ONLY can be used in the new IQ back. Now can they take a P45+ sensor over which is a Kodak sensor into the new IQ back, no one can answer that except Phase itself .
BTW I would not look at this as just a nice screen. After using the IQ setup it is far beyond that in functionality. It is really really nice

Like many of us. We are looking for a straight comparison between the P45 to the P65 to the IQ180. As a fine art landscape photographer who makes his money by selling exhibition images. I want to see the resolution. The back with retina display will be a hugh added feature since when we all switched from large format to medium we need the ability to truly focus and see where the depth of field is. I hoping one of you will do this test. T
