I saw that Trump threatened to de-certify Canadian made airplanes unless Canada does something or other or stops doing something or other. It's an interesting move, attack specific industries in other countries over some dispute or other. That will enhance the US's credibility in the world, I'm sure. Will that affect US airline companies that use those airplanes? They always have the option of buying up some of his meme coins to make the problem disappear.

Interfering in the private economy, running up huge government debt, these are things that conservatives have been preaching to us as being bad as long as I've been alive. They must be good now.

You kinda wonder why folks want to enter the US at all, least of all illegally. I expect many legal citizens of that land will quietly find ways to move themselves elsewhere. It won’t be getting better any time soon: it’s not just one man. The mindset that has allowed, nay, backed him so far, has the right to vote. Replacing him will present little problem. As the song tells us, one monkey don’t stop no show.

Notice how they arrested some journalists and distracted everyone from the ICE killings and the latest Epstein releases. Well played.

Re Epstein, there seem to be lots of other guys at those parties and that may take the spotlight off Trump. They have violated court orders repeatedly about releasing docs but it is paying off. There are no legal repercussions and it has been dragging on so long that I bet most people don't care anymore. If the best they can come up with are photos of 17 year olds who look 24 then it's a lost cause. In hindsight, we may eventually one day realize that once Ghislaine Maxwell had secret meetings, was sent to a "nicer" jail, and makes applications to be released, that the fix was in, the rest is a TV show.

You have to appreciate the irony that this lawless crowd is facilitating the cultural advance of Christian Nationalism. They may try to outlaw divorce soon. And Christian Nationalists certainly don't want free elections, that does them no good.

They went to a LOT of trouble to make those journalist arrests btw, defying their own internal investigators. What might be happening here is that most citizens distrust the US justice system anyway, and it may not bother them that much if Trump uses it as a tool for personal vengeance. The benefits of being rich in the legal system have been self-evident for decades. My gut tells me that the avg joe who gets caught up in something legal is simply better off seeking out a plea deal even if they're innocent, because any trial will ruin their lives forever. It will take years out of their lives and cost them more than they could ever afford. Is it possible to buy legal insurance the way you purchase health insurance? I know nothing about this.

I saw but did not read/view in detail an article about plans to deploy ICE to polling stations for the upcoming elections.

There is some online noise about how the 2nd amendment fetishists are not complaining enough about the fact that Pretti's gun was taken away from him unlawfully and that Trump and others are making noises about not allowing guns at demonstrations. You have to be pretty naive to bring this up. It was never about the right to bear arms, it's about the right of the correct people to bear arms. As I recall, they didn't like it much when the Black Panthers exercised their 2nd amendment rights.

The funniest fallout about decertifying Canadian made airplanes is that some are used by the US military. This particular issue has the feel of something that will quietly go away, a bit like those beautiful battleships. I think that Trump only mentioned the battleships because he likes saying the word "battleship".

Trump made some noise about "nationalizing" the elections, as it has been reported. Sounds to me that he wants the federal GOP to take over election management in swing states. Why aren't the constitution fetishists, states' rights advocates, and "oath keeper" types storming the WH with their AR15s?  Where is their concern for the republic today?

So far as I've know, ICE is still planning to travel to Italy for the Olympics. Has that changed? Are ICE officers allowed to roam around Italian streets with firearms?

It's embarrassing to watch this all unfold.

I didn't know that Lutnick was Epstein's next door neighbour at one point and that he vacationed on the island with his family. There are a few other tidbits, among them the fact that some of the files have been deleted from the site without explanation. But then they didn't explain any of the redactions either, as the regs require them to do.

I saw a headline on a story that I didn't read about how Machado from Venezuela was not getting much satisfaction from the Trump administration about holding elections in her country. Poor woman, I guess she thought Trump would keep to his promises after she handed him her Nobel Prize poster.

I particularly liked his excuses for the Obama/gorilla video, first something about the Lion King, then later blaming a staffer. I was waiting for the "dog did it" excuse, but the Trumps don't have a dog so that wouldn't work well.

I see now that he's ticked off with the USA Olympic team for some comments that some of them made. Let's see if they have any trouble re-entering the country after the Games. Not a bad distraction from the gorilla video.
