Well then, perhaps you can answer this.
What is it that Putin/Russia can provide Trump/USA that could not be more easily obtained from trade with dozens of other friendly countries that would be all too happy to do business with the USA, as they have done for years, to everyone's mutual benefit? I think I understand what Putin hopes to get out of the relationship, but what does Trump get out of it?
My God, it really is amazing how many non-Americans are allowing Trump to live rent free in their heads. LOL
Anyway, let me explain to you the Ukraine situation.
First, it is not what Trump gets, but what the US gets, or more exactly what the US does not get. We get nothing from Ukraine. We get no agriculture products we ourselves can not grow in surplus, we get no raw materials or minerals, we get no sophisticated IP or technology, we get no intelligence or espionage, and we get no safety (at least not directly) by keeping Ukraine free. So at a certain point in time, as is the case with all countries, we reevaluate our situation.
That is happening now, and the fact is we are stretched thin, too thin, to deal with the threat from China and the Middle East effectively. So we, the US, need to redirect our resources, and military protection, to the two allies whom are helping us deal with those two issues and who also provide us with sophisticated IP & technology and military intelligence & espionage, namely Taiwan and Israel. That is unless Ukraine can supply us with something tangible to keep us there and provide us with resources to help that aforementioned allies above, like minerals.
Ukraine signing a contract with the US for mineral rights would not only give us an incentive to continue to provide support now, but in the next administration too. (I doubt Trump is looking for 50%; it's just a starting number.) Let's not forget Biden's initial response to the war was to offer Zelensky a plane right out of Kiev to let Putin steam roll his way over Ukraine. Only after being drug kicking and screaming by the Europeans did Biden start supplying support. I suspect our next administration, just like with Bush, Obama and Biden, will give Putin the opportunity to take a little more here and there if no incentive exists for the US to provide support. Mineral rights fills that gap and ensure further administrations can not so easily deny support to Ukraine.
Now, if the Europeans have an issue with this, I can understand why. After all Ukraine is on their border, which means this is really a problem for Europe. So if they dont like it they are invited to pull up the slack. I mean the total GDP of Europe is almost nine times that of Russia, so they should have no problem affording it.
Insofar as the war, the only way it ends is either (a) Putin uses his significantly larger population and economy to steam roll over Ukraine, (b) we (the US and Europe) use our significantly larger population and economy to fight Russia directly with our troops on the ground because Ukraine has lost too many combat age men to fight effectively either from death, injury or emigrating abroad, or (c) a deal is struck with terms we do not like.
The least bad option appears to be the latter.
