Well then he's an idiot if he thought he was protecting the country. At the same time he was stopping that cruise ship from docking ( because it will make my Covid numbers look bad --> idiot ) hundreds of thousands of US citizens were coming home from all over the world, many infected without any kind of quaranteening guidance from the big Chetos. They all landed on home soil, many with the virus and merrily went on their ways, infecting many others without even knowing it. There...the damage started...and without any plans from the top...this unrestricted spread just continues from one state to the next.

He still has zero plans on how to combat the virus. It did not "some day magically go away". It did not "go away when it gets hot". It has never been "under control". A major fail of the most important thing that Chetos had to tackle during the past 4 years.
His plan is pushing vaccines and medicines to combat the disease to be released as quickly as possible, faster than normal procedures.  He was beneficiary of the latter medicines, matter of fact.  Additionally, the Federal government's CDC has recommendations.  And it was left to each state's Governor to decide how to implement the recommendations in their states and modify them as the governors see fit the local circumstances.  Blaming Trump for the silly actions of California's or Florida's governors is a copout.  Their high rates are not Trump's responsibility.

This is priceless:

Donald Trump Says China Will Pay for Stimulus Bill: 'They're the Ones That Caused This Problem'

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-stimulus-bill-china-1539467

China thought about dispatching a special envoy to Mexico to find out how they avoided paying for The Wall, but then realized there isn't a stimulus bill to pay for. They also realized that Mexico wasn't going to be that much help because there wasn't a wall to pay for either.

Trumps a lot of talk...little action. Where's the wall? North Korea parading around latest missiles. China economy starting to click...what about US? Russia still pulling the Trump strings like a puppet for Putin to keep amused.

Trump...where's the beef to back up all the dribble?

I think Trump should send Dr. Fauci to help out the Europeans.

I don't think we need him, thanks. We know what to do, but have a problem actually doing it. We know that we should isolate but make it financially impossible for people to do so; we know we should test and trace but instead of giving the job to experts we prefer to give massive contracts to incompetents who support the ruling party. Our prime minister fantasizes about being a latter day Churchill but his leadership is more reminiscent of Charlie Chaplin.

Solomon couldn't figure out how to split the baby regarding medical vs economic when it comes to Covid.  And our leaders aren't Solomon.  It's an intractable problem we face.  There are no easy answers.

I don't think there's any danger of mistaking "Johnson" Johnson for Solomon.

There are no perfect answers, but there are best practices. In the non-spin version of what one of the WHO spokespersons actually said recently regarding lockdowns, he said that temporary lockdowns should be used to buy time to establish robust local systems to test, contact trace, isolate, and treat those infected. This is what South Korea did to minimize the impact of the virus very early in the outbreak.

Trouble is South Koreans go along with firm almost dictatorial government.  Americans, even Europeans, wouldn't accept that kind of control.

People will go along with those who have earned their trust especially when they can see that their lives depend on it. If our leaders are inveterate liars that trust will be harder to gain.

The cultures between the Koreans and Americans are so different.  The Brits wouldn't put up with it anymore than Americans.  The French are rioting as are the Germans.  Only in Asia could they get away with clamping down hard on people.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/16/europe/europe-coronavirus-records-intl/index.html

Most countries experience a second wave. The US has not finished the first one yet with 674 deaths per million. More than Italy, UK or France. Only two countries in Europe are higher that I know of, being Spain at 722 and Belgium 890. With the US still the highest or second highest deaths per day in the world it is hard to see that changing.

The situation is getting dire even in USA. Now in some states you can't carry a gun at the polling stations.

Quote
Michigan will prohibit the open carrying of firearms at polling stations, clerk’s offices and other places where absentee ballots are tabulated to prevent voter intimidation, state officials said on Friday.

The order, from Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, applies to Election Day, on Nov. 3, and prohibits a firearm within 100 feet (30 meters) of any voting or counting location. “Prohibiting the open-carry of firearms in areas where citizens cast their ballots is necessary to ensure every voter is protected,” Benson said in a statement.

In commie Canada we "got away with it" just fine, despite the similarities in our cultures.  Canadian results speak for themselves, as do American.

Intransigence disguised as freedom is a flawed interpretation of liberty.

I'm still trying to figure out why it would be considered "clamping down hard on people" to create a system of widespread and easily available local testing, local tracing, and local containment in order to avoid locking down entire populations and their economy. Not to mention free and readily accessible treatment for those that are sick. Could someone explain that one to me?

I already have pretty good idea of Alan's perception of Asians from his previous posts.

You missed my point.  Maybe I wasn't clear.  The point is this isn't over.  It's all a crapshoot. Comparing case and death numbers is an ego trip that doesn't comport with the facts that change.  No one has a monopoly on anything.  Things can change overnight.  Laughing at America's higher case count is silly.  zSo now Europe's is higher.  Especially when you consider that America tests more then anyone else. What goes around comes around.

Maybe presidential candidates should have duels and decide the winner at ten paces.  Much simpler.
