Selective focus software
« on: February 23, 2014, 09:42:23 pm »

I'm trying to find software that imitates selective focus effects of several well known lenses. Both OnOne and Nik offer something along that line in their suites but I think I have seen a plugin offering more options and control that was not a part of a larger suite. If this is familiar to anyone, please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Hi Richard,

Maybe you saw Topaz Labs LensEffects?

It allows to mimic the character of different lenses, and it also allows to do selective focusing and Depth of Field simulations, including the more elaborate and complex ones based on a custom made depth map. It works great e.g. for those backgrounds that are just a bit too well focused because they were near the subject which did need some DOF.

Cheers,
Bart

P.S. They often offer coupons discounts for different products, or all plugins, at the end of their Webinars. Just subscribe to a relevant topic and see what's on offer at the end.

There's also "Bokeh" by Alien Skin.

I think Bokeh is the one I was thinking of. I'm taking a look at both. Thanks for your help.

Bokeh has a lot of lens presets and the option for a gradient blur to make the foreground look more natural (if needed)  Not sure what it costs these day though.
