Question re polarizing filter

The turning action on my 77mm circular polarizer (B+W) is not very smooth. I would say that it could stand some lubrication. Is there anyway of doing this without risking lubricant getting between the layers of glass and totally screwing things up? Thanks

I have never faced this situation, but my first thought is to get some silicone spray lubricant and spritz some in a small container like a shot glass. Then use a toothpick to transfer small amounts to the gap between the 2 filter rings.
