Are Eric Chan's BW profiles for Epson 3800 compatible with 3880?
I'd love to use them in my new 3880.
Thanks in advance!

Eric Chan is basically linearizing the ABW response of the three black and grey inks, and I believe these three inks are the same for the 3880 as the 3800, so the only thing that might go out a bit is if any of the new color inks are involved in the toning.  Otherwise, it should work fine.  If you have a spectrometer like the i1 or Datacolor spectrocolorimeter, you can use Quad Tone Rip's linearization method to do your own black and white profiles, too.  Or, you can use Eric's older method to create your own correction curves.  There is a link on Eric's site to that method.  It's a little math intensive, but I've done it and it works very well.

Unfortunately the 3800 profiles will generally not work well directly on the 3880, partly because of the inks, but mostly because of different driver behavior.

On the other hand, I am preparing a new set of profiles for the 3880. Hopefully I'll post soon.

Would 3880 profiles work on a 2880?

Generally not. You could try, but I wouldn't expect great results ... might be "good enough", though. (Reasons: Different head design, and different driver and screening, though the inks are the same.)

Some different Epson models really do use the same print system from beginning to end (e.g., 7900 and 9900) so a profile made on one will work well on the other. But that's a special case, since they are really the same printer, with the minor difference that one is 24" wide and the other is 44" ...

Eric,

Thanks for all your assistance with the 3800 and 3880. Do you anticipate an update of your website to cover the 3880 as thoroughly as you have the 3800?

FWIW, Mr. Chan has new ABW profiles for the Epson 3880 now posted on his webpage.
