Cutting 24" rolls
« on: January 19, 2010, 08:01:10 pm »

i am using an HP Z3200 printer. If i wanted to cut a 24" wide roll into a 13" and 11" rolls what would be the cleanest method? i was thinking of a bandsaw with a fine blade. any suggestions/recommendations/warnings?
thanks

I wrap the part of the paper with tape and then use a fine tooth band saw or miter box, both work well.  The main point is keep the roll TIGHT and tape the part you will cut.

I use a radial arm saw to rough cut to size, then use a sanding attachment to do the final trim.  Works great.  Tape up the entire roll.  Trim off the top few layers to get rid of dust and tape adhesive.  Blow off any excess dust and you're set.

If you want to use the 11" roll on a Z model you may get in trouble.  It is at the edge of the roll width that is accepted. At least on my 44" Z3100 it will not be accepted.

I've gone through at least 4 100' rolls of hand cut 11" paper on my 24" Z3100, no problems.  Make sure you're using the latest firmware, as there was an update a year or so ago to accommodate this.

Then I think the difference is between the 24"and 44" model, the Z3100 + Z3200 44" here do not go that small despite the latest firmware.

Good that it works for you.
