First Week in November 2009
« on: April 13, 2009, 12:23:55 pm »

Have begun to line up a trip for early in November 2009. Hope to find a warm location with exceptional views and great birding locations. North or South America, or the Islands.

Taking all ideas and posts of images.

Bolsa Chica, Huntington Beach Calif.  Pardon the low quality - all taken with a Panasonic FZ50.  1/1.8 (tiny) sensor, 420 mm (35 mm effective) zoom.

Warm in November, with birds and exceptional views.  The "warm in November" part is tough without going well south.  Maybe Costa Rica or Hawaii?

Hawaii seems to fulfill your requirements.  My favorite island is Kauai, since it's one of the less developed (i.e. less crowded and overbuilt) of the Hawaiian islands, but has the best wildlife and scenery of those islands, IMHO.  Example photos at: http://www.stanford.edu/~melkor/lisa_pictures/OtherUSA.html

Wonderful shots. I am not aware of this area. What is the weather like first week of November? We were in Yosemite an, Sacromento and Bumboldt park last Nove and it was a bit cold. Images are at: www.leegephart.smugmug.com under art and then Art.

My wife is the bird lover, author and global bird chaser. I will show these to her.

Very nice images. I love water falls. My other half has been to Kauai but I have not. Would love to go. We actually had the word Cuba come up in our conversation at dinner the other night. That might be a very interesting trip. I might have to start a new thread on that idea.

I can handle cold areas too so I will have to look at your Alaska images. Thanks for the reply. Anyone else out there with good images and ideas?

Weather varies from 60 to 75 F, but rarely as low as 60.  It doesn't rain often, but because it's close to the ocean, you can almost always get the lighting you like best, by going at the right time of day.  Morning and late afternoon have the most clouds.  There's a footbridge 1-1/2 miles South on PCH from Warner, where you can shoot pelicans, egrets, terns, stilts, various shorebirds, etc.  It's usually busy with birds there, especially early and late.  If you park instead at Warner and PCH, and walk across the bridge to the dirt path, you can see raptors along that path, and back in 3/4 mile take a left down into the forested area by the shallow water, you can see kingfishers, ospreys, kites, and other birds.  Don't step on any rattlers in the upper dirt-path area.  Mostly that's a summer problem.
