Hi,
I'm mulling around the idea of moving to a digital back in the next year or so. I'm attracted to the phase set up, but still want the option to use the back on my RZ. I was told by a salesperson that in order to use the phase back (with phase mount) that i'd have to move to a RZIId body and adapter plate to use with my RZ. I'm not against that idea and have enjoyed using the phase backs with an H2 set up for rental in the past few years (have not used Capture 4, only 3 so far). If I were to go the leaf route (say the Mamiya DL28 or DL33 set up), can I use that same back on my RZII with just an adapter plate (is one available for that mount combination) or would I still have to get a RZIID body?
thanks,
craig
The sniffer program puts a big Phase One icon in the sky like the bat signal.
RZ Pro IID: any Phase One back with a Mamiya-style mount. This means you can use a Phase One body or Mamiya AFDI, II or III and a RZ ProIID with the same digital back, a very popular option. The adapter requires no plugs or cables.
RZ Pro II: any Phase One back with a classic Hasselblad-V (also sometimes called a universal mount) which means you could use the same back with your Hasselblad 500 series body as an RZ Pro II. The adapter has a cable that runs from the front of the body (not the lens) to the adapter plate.
The P65+ is the exception. It could be used on the IID or II with the methods and mounts described above, but could also be used in the Hasselblad H and Contax mounts using a sync cable to the lens. This would be the closest to the original 6x7 frame since it has the largest sensor size of any digital back on the market.
Generally speaking most of our RZ interested customers end up buying an RZ Pro IID and a Mamiya mount digital back with a Phase One body or AFD I/II. That way they have a focal plane body as well as a leaf shutter body.
