« on: April 06, 2008, 12:22:54 am »

For the life of me I cant find where to set the resolution ouput for converted TIFF files. I want to change it from 240 to 300 so I dont have to manually change it for every imge in CS3.

On LR v 1.3.1 (Mac), you can change resolution in the Export dialog (see attached screenshot).

Yes - thats true - you can do that on a PC as well.

But if you choose - Edit in CS3 it always defaults to 240.

Is there a way to change it? Because there doesnt appear to be - and having to change it manually in CS3 after export is a PITA. As is having to re-import an exported file just to get the resolution set at 300.

Under Edit menu option preferences you will select Units and Rulers and on that page you can set New Document Preset Resolutions.

If you are doing Raw then you need to click the list of preset options at the bottom of the raw screen and change the Workflow Options Dialog.

Tom those are options in Photoshop, not in Lightroom.  They will have no effect on PSD/TIFFs created through Lightroom's "Edit in..." function.  In fact there seems to be no way to do it within Lightroom.  For workflows where edited Photoshop documents are then used back in Lightroom this isn't an issue as the resolution can be set on final export.  While it might be useful in some cases if the resolution could be set to a default value for "Edit in...", personally I don't think it really matters.

If you're going to use the image for output from Photoshop, you're going to resize it within Photoshop (there is no guarantee of the image size [in pixels] coming out of Lightroom) and you can set the resolution at the same time you're setting the image size.  Actions can of course automate this within Ps.

IF you're actually exporting from LR, of course you can set the resolution tag as shown above. If you're round tripping, (Edit in Photoshop), it doesn't matter.

I guess that the "Edit in Photoshop..." command is supposed to be a temporary step before returning to Lightroom. And in this case, as Andrew says above, resolution is irrelevant.

On the other hand, if you want to export and print from Photoshop, setting resolution becomes useful (done in the export dialog).

Exactly. There are times you'll use it, times you may not want to. But its about round tripping.
